Memorial Day Weekend, Blood Donations Needed

As the holiday weekend approaches, Blood Assurance is encouraging people to roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life. Holiday weekends can be challenging for the community’s blood center, which is responsible for supplying all local hospitals with blood donations despite a decrease in donations and an increase in usage, particularly during warmer months.

These donations are particularly important for patients like David Masters. River City Bank in Rome will host a blood drive on May 29 in honor of Masters, who was injured in an automobile accident. Donors can give blood on May 29 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Seeing first hand the importance of blood donations, area hospitals are hosting blood drives to ensure patients have an adequate blood supply for the Memorial Day weekend
